Nutrigenomic-derived-health claims
Health claim means any representation that states, suggests or implies that a relationship exists between a food or a constituent of that food and health. The health relationship between the consumption of food bearing a claim has to be recognized and the claimed effect should be beneficial for human health.
Nutrigenomic-derived-health claims will be those health claims based on nutrigenomic-based biomarkers provided that a cause-effect relationship between the consumption of the concerned food and the claimed effect has been substantiated by generally recognized solid science. In contrast to previous applications of genomics and other technologies where the goal is to distinguish existing disease from absence of disease, nutrigenomics aims to discern nuanced differences in predisease states such that dietary interventions can be designed to prevent or modify future disease susceptibility.
